Back to the Twenties...

I am so amazingly envious of this gorgeous 1920s flapper dress... 

... Completely crystallized with glass beads it was one of the most beautiful pieces of vintage that I saw throughout the Southbank Festival.

I love the almost coral yet peachy tones of the dress put together with antique gold glass beading and cream Art Nouveau style patterns.

OH what I wouldn't do to get my hands on a dress like this!

Wandering out of Carnaby street one day and what do I find?

The London Tweed Run.  That's what!

On Saturday the 9th April a mass of cyclists clad in both vintage and new tweed of all types upon their Pashleys and Penny Farthings took to the streets of London.  

Described as a 'leisurely jaunt through the Empire's capital' it must be the perfect way to enjoy London's finer sights without enduring the hassles and heat of the tube.

Regents Street was where I found them and I just wish I'd known sooner... 

 

... next year I'll definitely be taking part... 

... my tweed jacket, flat cap and 1970's Raleigh at the ready!

... secretly (but not so secretly) I want this one...
... yes its the car from Harry Potter... but I promise that's not why...

So I thought I pay tribute to some people who clearly were very proud of their cars back in the day...

I love saving old photographs from possible decomposition in a skip somewhere...

...and these old passport photos were no exception...

Don't you just wish that they still did them this way?
I only wish that I knew his name...

Don't feed the animals!

One of the things I love most about collecting vintage (bar the actual discovery of a gem), is the way everything collected comes together to create a unique picture of yourself. 

Recently found (or given - thanks mum and dad!) items have been photos, albums, illustrations, prints, adverts etc.

Having moved into halls of residence this September, I've slowly been decorating my walls and shelves with imagery...

... such as posters, advert boards, scrapbook pictures and illustrations sliced out of falling apart children's books and annuals.

This illustration has everything I love about vintage rolled into one... 

... its got style, 

colours, 

fashion, 

humour, 

innocence, 

novelty, 

history, 

wear and tear...

... and design.
